Book chapter to be published in 2020, Emancipating Education
I’ve been a public school teacher since 2006. Prior to entering education, however, I was a technical writer in Seattle, Washington. My job was to write and speak clearly so that computer technicians could understand how to use new products. So, while my journey into public education began in 2006, in some ways I’ve been a teacher much longer.
From 2006-2011, I taught mostly in rural schools in Missouri. In 2011, I moved to Wichita and began teaching in rural and then in more urban/suburban schools.
While the geography has changed over the years, all students have one thing in common: Hopes and Dreams.
My family has grown since moving to Wichita. We have 3 boys who are in the district, and we enjoy sharing our lives with 2 dogs, a very old cross-eyed cat, five fish, and two beehives which house about 35,000 bees combined.
