On October 3, Goddard High School Marching band took second place in the Blue Division at the Air Capital Marching Invitational. This annual high school marching band festival in Kansas is presented by the South Central Directors of Kansas Clinics and competition are components of the day. Events typically feature morning or early-afternoon educational clinics followed by an afternoon/evening ranked marching band competition. Bands receive feedback and rankings based on standard criteria.
On October 7, the GHS followed up that strong performance by competing at the Emporia State University Marching Festival. The students persevered through a hot warm up, electronic issues, and a rocky start in Emporia. It was inspiring to see their resilience and to see them stick to their training!
Goddard left the festival with a 1 rating, Gold Class Champion, general effect caption award winner, and the Grand Champion of the whole festival.
We anticipate great ratings as the GHS marching band luck as they head to the Southern Plains Marching Festival in Andover on October 21. They will also show their style at the Kansas Bandmasters Association Open Class Marching Championship in Overland Park on October 31.
